L'impertinent an all-the-way winner under Torrens L'impertinent was given a fine front-running ride by Simon Torrens in the beginners' chase at Ballinrobe. He was punted down to 13/2 and raced nicely clear from flagfall. Torrens sent him further clear after the third and the pair had more a dozen lengths in hand after the fifth fence. He got in a bit close five out but still held a huge lead on Jacksons Gold and You Raised Me Up. Call Me Lyreen, the 6/4 favourite on chasing debut, raced fourth. L'impertinent wasn't foot perfect four out and the lead was reduced before the next. However, it may have been because he was a given a breather as he skipped round the bend towards the second last. He had enough to the run-in to beat a closing Jacksons Gold (8/1) by a length and three quarters. You Raised Me Up (2/1) kept on in third, beaten three lengths by the winner. Enda Bolger said: “There were a couple of better-class horses in the race today but jumping is his forte and after the first two fences he had the others under a bit of pressure. He just got close to two at the top of the hill but he was brilliant again at the last. “He’s not a married man’s ride. He goes as fast as he can and you just have to go with him. “We’ll try and see if there’s another race here for him at some point during the summer, horses for courses. “Young John Shinnick won on him here over hurdles and I had him declared for the ride but he hadn’t had enough rides over fences to be eligible for this race. It was hard luck on John but he got a great ride from Simon.” Additional reporting by Mark Nunan
