Krivan overcomes bad draw Krivan overcame the burden of the widest drawn in 18 to justify 5/2 favouritism in the opening six furlong juvenile maiden at Fairyhouse this afternoon. Shane Foley's mount broke quickly from the stalls and was soon in front, staying on really well in the final quarter mile to beat Fred Fenster (3/1) by two and three quarter lengths. Eagle Canyon (7/2) was another three quarters of a length back in third. The start to this race was delayed by ten minutes after Malicious Intent (50/1) refused to load, and then 33/1 chance Lady Of Russia ran loose and was eventually caught past the stands. Both horses were withdrawn. Winning trainer Mick Halford said, “He's got a lot of pace, and just likes to get on with things. He's very relaxed at home but when he comes out of those stalls it seems to set him alight. He did well to overcome the draw. “He has the size and scope to improve with racing, and should make up into a nice sprinter next year. He's a lovely mover but handled that ground well.” Alan Magee
