The Richard Hannon trained Kool Kompany under Fran Berry, bounced back to his best when winning the Group 2 Gain Railway Stakes at the Curragh today, putting memories of last week's disappointing Coventry Stakes effort firmly behind him.
Berry elected to make the running on the son of versatile stallion Jeremy, and in the end made all for a two lengths win over Amlar Emarati.
Hannon, who took over the trainers' license from his father and namesake at the beginning of this Flat season, was absent but Berry later stated “he only had one disappointing run (at Royal Ascot last week when finishing 12th in the Coventry Stakes) but I spoke to Richard Hannon this morning and he said 'don't mind his run in the Coventry, things didn't work out and he ran too keen' and the only anxious moments I had today were in the stalls when he got very worked up.
“He put the race to bed quickly between the two (furlong marker) and the one and he was only getting going at the line. I can't see why he won't get seven furlongs and he is bred to stay.”
Six to four favourite Cappella Sansevero runner-up in that Coventry Stakes last week, disappointed in fifth.
