Killarney preview Galway Hurdle fourth Davids Charm turns his attention back to the Flat at Killarney in the 50,000 euro K.W.D Kingdom Gold Cup. A competitive field lines up for the one-mile six-furlong handicap this evening, and John Joe Walsh’s stable star makes plenty of appeal. He looked a most unlucky loser on his last outing on the Flat when third in a two-mile handicap on Derby day at the Curragh. The Milan gelding found himself in a pocket turning for home and was again tight for room inside the final furlong as he attempted to launch his challenge. He also met with interference at halfway at Galway, but still ran a solid race to finish fourth to Tudor City. With a clear run this time, the eight-year-old looks capable of landing a nice pot. Legal Spin was just ahead of the selection at the Curragh, and on the same terms he looks another to consider. Willie Mullins’ charge won his maiden here over this trip last year and has been competing with credit in hot handicaps this term. It is a very strong heat, and Halimi bids to return to winning ways after having to settle for third at Leopardstown a fortnight ago. That looked a good contest, in which he finished third to Galeola, and off the same mark he has to have a shout. Millswyn has been knocking on the door — and stepping up to this trip, he is another to respect. In the preceding G.M.H.D Apprentice Handicap, Pearl Warrior bids for a hat-trick after a couple of cosy victories of late. Johnny Murtagh’s charge won in good style at Sligo 15 days ago, before following up in similar fashion in a five-runner contest at Tramore last Saturday. He turns out again under a 6lb penalty, and would appear the one to beat in the one-mile-three-furlong contest. The card is split 50-50 between Flat and National Hunt, with three races over fences. Movewiththetimes is sure to attract plenty of attention in the Killarney Oaks Hotel Beginners Chase, having been well fancied on his first outing for Enda Bolger in the Galway Plate. The JP McManus-owned gelding went off 8-1 joint-favourite for the big race at Ballybrit, only to fall at the ninth fence. This would appear a nice opportunity to get a confidence-boosting win under his belt.
