Edmond Kent recorded his first winner under National Hunt rules as Teochew took the Follow Cork On Facebook Mares Maiden Hurdle under Donal McAuley.
Kent, from Castlelyons in Cork, has twice tasted success on the level with Lovers Peace but he was enjoying his maiden success in the National Hunt sphere this evening.
Teochew, who has some decent runs to her name in bumpers and over hurdles, was sent off at 7/1 and raced in mid-division for much of the contest.
She took closer order from before four out and she came with her challenge on the run to the second last, hitting the front before the last and keeping on well on the run-in to score by four and a half lengths. Get Off The Stage finished back in second under David Casey for Pat Kelly at 13/2 while Girl In Blue was a further five lengths back in third under Phillip Enright for Robert Tyner also at 13/2. Our Katie was sent off the 5/1 favourite for Gerry Ahern and Lar Murphy but she could only manage a disappointing fifth.
Edmond Kent said afterwards: "She has some nice runs and I felt she needed the extra trip. I fancied her well enough today.
"She is by Shantou and they never know when there are beaten. I have a full-sister to her at home and she is cantering away. I have a dozen riding out between youngster and point-to-pointers."
Winning rider Donal McAuley was recording his first winner in Ireland since he partnered Sainte Kadette to victory at Wexford in October of 2010.
McAuley said after the win: "I was in Australia for a year and a half and I’m home around nine months now.
"I had two winners in Australia and I got my professional licence back four months ago.
"This is my second stint as a professional and I’m full time with Eddie (Edmond Kent) now. I won the Fegentri Series back in 2008."
