Kelly & Quirke double up as Kiln Time records 40/1 surprise Cian Quirke and Harry Kelly completed a 204/1 double as Kiln Time caused a 40/1 shock in the Sean Graham Bookmakers Handicap Hurdle at Naas. The John Bowe-owned gelding put some disappointing form this season behind him when getting up in a thrilling finish to this near three-mile event. There was still plenty in contention at the final flight where Barryroe Madam held a slight advantage when unseating Richie Deegan. Quirke got a fine response from Kiln Time towards the far rail to beat Cullig by a neck, with Aleish Lass holding every chance a length back in third with True Destiny completing the places in fourth. Kelly said, “We’re delighted with the day. Thanks to John and Michael for supporting me, they are great supporters and we’re having a bit of luck together. “This horse just has his kinks, and it’s just about the day he decides to go. “Davy O’Brien works for me at home and has done loads of cross country schooling on him to sweeten him up. “Cian just knocks a tune out of horses and is fantastic. “He maybe struggled with his wind in heavy ground and Cian thought the better ground helped him. He dropped his stick at the last and he thought he probably went forward after that then.” Kelly and Quirke were also on the mark earlier with the impressive Black Heather. Quotes by Gary Carson
