Hypersonic Missile bounced back to form to claim the two-mile-six handicap hurdle at Ballinrobe, giving Jack Kearney his first success over jumps.
The Gavin Cromwell-trained gelding was pulled up on his last outing at Roscommon, early last month, when found to be lame and clinically abnormal post-race.
He went to post a 12/1 shot today and was produced to lead going to the final flight by 5lb claimer Kearney. Missus Beeton finished off well in the closing stages but could only get within half-a-length at the line.
The winner had been placed in three handicap hurdles prior to his below par performance last time.
Kearney said:- “It’s been a while coming and I’ve hit the crossbar numerous times, so I’m delighted to get it.
“He pricked his ears when he got there, probably got there too soon, but all he does is stay galloping.
“The weight got a struggle on the Flat and it was always in the back of my mind to go jumping.
“I’m with Gavin Cromwell four days and Cian Collins two days a week. They are both very good to me and I also ride work for Gerry Keane as much as I can.
“I got plenty of opportunities on the Flat and everybody was very good to me there, but it was just a natural progression as I was getting taller and wider!
“I did plenty of hunting and jumping with ponies and horses all my life. I do plenty of schooling with Gavin and Cian and it’s all good experience.”
