Jules Winfield makes impressive debut to land Ballinrobe finale Tony Martin introduced a nice prospect in the closing race of the evening as debutant Jules Winfield quickened up smartly to take the John Madden & Sons INH Flat Race at Ballinrobe. A Flat-bred gelding, the offspring of Siyouni travelled easily in mid division under Derek O'Connor before making significant headway around the outside of runners over three furlongs from home. At one point it looked as though the 9/1 chance wouldn't come off the bridle as O'Connor was at pains not to head leader Shabra Diya too soon. Despite having to be pushed along for a few strides when eventually asked to go and win his race, Jules Winfield soon asserted in the straight to run out a very easy six-and-a-half length winner. “We had him to a few places so he knew his job but coming here I thought the track would beat him,” said Martin. “When I thought Derek could ride him early last week I was inclined to run him. “He’s done well, he’s been away a few times and showed plenty. Our hands were tied coming places but when I knew your man was available it made it a lot easier. “He’s a Siyouni. I bought him as a breeze-up yearling, he was too big and no-one wanted him as he was too slow as a breezer but this is always what was in my head so it worked out well.”
