Wesley Joyce celebrates his double© Photo Healy Racing
Wesley Joyce was again seen to good effect from the front when completing a quick 57/1 double aboard Blue Wood in the Laura Nicholas Memorial Handicap at Down Royal.
Joyce also made all in the previous race on Red Heel (11/2) and had another willing partner in this seven-furlong event.
The Kevin Smith-trained gelding stayed on strongly inside the final furlong, drawing right away in the closing stages to score by three and a quarter lengths at odds of 8/1. The Stray Sod kept on one paced in second with Clarinbridge a further length and a quarter back in third.
Smith said, "He has shown plenty of ability since I got him and delighted to see him do it at the track.
"He finished out well and very happy with him, he looked game and genuine.
"Myself and Wesley get on well, we are good friends."
