Jembatt was produced with a perfectly timed challenge by Gary Carroll to steal victory in the shadow of the post in the 47-70 rated five-furlong handicap at Tipperary.

The Mick Mulvany-trained gelding was drawn widest of all in 18, and the 7/1 chance really picked up on the stands’ side rail inside the final furlong.

The seven-year-old son of Captain Rio, backed at the course from 9/1 into 7’s, flew home in the closing stages and just got up in the final stride to pip Hi Empress by a short-head. Ability N Delivery was up with the pace throughout to take third, with Times In Anatefka completing the placings in fourth.

Mulvany said, “He’s genuine even though he wears cheek-pieces. He gives his all, and when he drops to around the 70 mark he performs.

“The owners decided to keep him for another year but I put them off coming down here as I thought the trip was too short. Seven furlongs is his ideal trip.”

The successful Mighty Four Syndiacte includes well-known racegoer and Arkle memorabilia collector Nick O’Toole.
