Joseph O'Brien bagged a treble on the day at Thurles when Jeaniemacaroney came with a well-timed run to claim the two-mile handicap hurdle. Wee Charlie led away from the second last but was picked off by Jeaniemacaroney and Peter Smithers going to the final flight.

The Highland Reel filly galloped on strongly on the run-in to post a two-and-a-half length success at odds of 6/1.

It was a second career success for Jeaniemacaroney, who had been runner-up four times since her win at Roscommon in July.

Smither said afterwards:- "I finished second on her previously in Limerick when she had a heavy enough weight, which might have caught her out but she had a light weight today and the tight track suited her.

"They went plenty hard up front today but she has plenty of speed and I was happy enough to hold on to her as long as I could, and to go with one run.

“To be fair to her for a small filly, ground isn't really an issue."

O'Brien had also landed the feature event with Cottesloe Sunshine and the two-and-a-half mile handicap chase with Prairie Dancer All his three runners today were successful.
