Backed from evens into 4/6 before the off, Jasko Des Dames made a winning start over fences in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Beginners Chase at Wexford.

A bumper winner in France and a useful 124-rated maiden over hurdles, Basil Holian's five-year-old made all under Darragh O'Keeffe. Pursued over the last couple of fences by An Peann Derg, he was ridden out to hold that rival by half-a-length.

Robbie Power, representing winning trainer Henry de Bromhead, said: "His schooling at home had been very good and Darragh was happy to pop away in front if there was no pace, so we left it up to him. He jumped super and while he got in under the third-last, it was his first run over fences.

"I'm delighted for Basil, he got pipped at the post at Galway yesterday with Downmexicoway, so it's great to get a bit of compensation.

"Two and a half miles is probably the limit of his stamina and we will see what options are coming up over fences for him in the next couple of weeks. We wouldn't be afraid to go back to two miles."
