Jak gets it right on fourth start over fences The Noel Meade trained Jakros got off the mark on his fourth attempted over fences as he took the last at Ballinrobe this evening, the Tote Betting In Paddy Powers Beginners Chase. Ridden by Niall Madden, the 7yo son of Beneficial was sent off at 11/4 with The Great Shanghai going off the 4/5 favourite for Philip Byrne and Mattie Bowes. As they approached the second last the two market leaders along with the Gavin Cromwell trained Royal Sam (9/1) had it between them. The favourite was ridden for a stride or two before the fence and then blundered and unseated his rider there leaving Jakros and Royal Sam to battle out the finish. Royal Sam then made a slight mistake at the last and Jakros soon hit the front and went on to score by three and a half lengths at the line. Winning rider Niall Madden said afterwards: "He did it well. The pace I wanted wasn't there so I had to do most of the donkey work myself. He jumped and travelled well and he did it well at the death." Madden was recording his eighth win of the 2012/13 National Hunt season while it was win No 11 for Meade.
