Jack tops in Ballinrobe Golf Club Mini Shan (10s into 9/2 joint favourite, finished 7th) was the one that came alive in the betting for division one of the Ballinrobe Golf Club Handicap Hurdle but that money stayed in the layer's satchels as Jack The Hat did the business under Jody McGarvey. McGarvey gave Jack The Hat a waiting ride, improving to track the leaders with a circuit to go. He led after two out before going on to defeat the other market-leader, Lortzing, by three and a half lengths. "He was very unlucky here the last day (5th behind Revolutionary Road on June 25th) when a horse fell in front of him. He's in again at Wexford on Friday," stated winning trainer Noel 'Iggy' Lawlor afterwards. (DM & EM)
