Irish Lass impresses on debut There was a double for Willie Mullins on the concluding day of the August meeting, and his fourth of the festival when Irish Lass justified the talk that saw her go off at odds of 8/15 for the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares INH Flat Race at Tramore. Patrick Mullins did the steering on the daughter of Getaway, and she raced in mid-division in the early stages. Irish Lass travelled well into second a furlong and a half out, came wide off the home bend but she soon led, staying on well to comfortably beat Glebe Girl by seven and a half lengths. "Her owners (Bowes Lodge Stables Partnership) couldn't come over due to travel difficulties but I'm delighted for them anyway," said Willie Mullins, earlier on the mark with Hey Little Boy (Ruby Walsh). "They also have New Kid In Town with us, and Contingency who won here the other day. She is a nice mare and obviously is a half-sister to Airlie Beach. She will probably go the winners route now and then novice hurdling." (DM & EM)
