Indian Fairy got a dream run up the inner between the last two hurdles and scored at Tramore in the hands of Brian Cawley.
Eoin Doyle’s six-year-old mare was sent off the 7/2 favourite for the opening two mile five maiden hurdle on the back of three placed efforts in-a-row in this grade of racing.
She raced in ninth before taking closer order in sixth with a circuit to go and four flights to jump. Before the third last she was off the bridle but after clearing the penultimate hurdle she hugged the inner rail and stayed on into the lead coming to the last.
Despite being strongly challenged by Millie Le Bach (7/1), she had enough in the tank to win by a length and three parts. Collen Beag kept on well for third at 15/2 having raced in rear.
Eoin Doyle said: “She was knocking on the door and I kind of fancied her this evening. I was a bit worried about the track. Brian said more of a galloping track would suit her as she was just a bit flatfooted at the top.
“She stays well and I think she will be a mare for over fences as she jumps well. I think she is better than what she looked this evening, but she won and that’s the main thing. She is in again on Sunday (a maiden hurdle) but obviously she can’t run in that now.
“Sean Connors from Galway owns her and he also has For A Finish with me. He wouldn’t jump off last night, the first time he ever did that. I don’t know what got into his head. I actually fancied him. Maybe he is getting a bit wise.”
This was Doyle’s second winner at this year's Tramore Festival.
