Incredible 6,580/1 Condon four-timer Jockey Davy Condon continued his blistering form at Down Royal when guiding Johannisberger to victory in the ultra-competitive Galway Plate trial over two and a half miles. Commenting on his achievement Condon said: “That’s brilliant, that’s my first four-timer. I’ve had a good few trebles, but a four-timer is special. “I thought coming here they all had small chances, but I didn’t think I’d ride a winner so it shows what kind of judge I am. Johannisberger had won over course and distance two runs back and tonight he came through on the inside rail to lead two out before staying on nicely for a length and three quarter win. Saddling a double, trainer Noel Meade said: “His wind just catches him out and you have to give him a chance. In Roscommon he was on top of his head the whole way and the rain didn’t help. “Around here there’s more jumping and that suits him. There’s no point looking at the Galway Plate as from the last fence to the line he would get lost. It wouldn’t suit him. “He’s a great jumper. You could see him going round in the Topham.” Norther Bay took second at 20/1. He was six lengths ahead of For A Finish (16/1) in third. For A Finish was backed from 33/1 to 12/1 earlier today.
