The new numbering system for the stalls on right-handed tracks came into play today and its importance was shown in no uncertain terms in the Mallow Town Summer BBQ Evening July 8th Handicap when Timeless Call from stall 15, now right on the rail, prevailed in the six furlong event under Niall McCullagh.
Reggie Roberts, successful only last weekend with Cheviot at Naas, trains Timeless Call, and she beat the similarly highly-drawn Act Of Love (out of 13) and Expire (drawn 14) by two and a half lengths and a length and three parts. Timeless Call accomplished this success in good style, making virtually all and asserting over a furlong out.
Roberts is of course well-known in greyhound racing circles and he was represented here by John Feane.
Feane said of the well-bred Sakhee filly, out of the mare Pourquoi Pas (competed at the highest level in Italy): "Niall says she's extremely fast. She was impressive and we'll try to get her some black-type.
"We've always liked her and she has progressed from two to three. She should be well-capable of dropping back to five furlongs too."
