There was late drama in the Play The Tote Irish EBF (Mares) Chase at Limerick today as 11/8 favourite and leader Timeforwest fell at the second last fence, leaving Mill Quest to win and in the process provide doubles for trainer Gordon Elliott and jockey Davy Russell.
Mill Quest had improved to lead at the earlier third last fence but Timeforwest, under Daragh O'Keeffe, took the lead entering the home straight and had edged ahead approaching the penultimate fence. However Timeforwest reached for that obstacle and fell as a result, leaving Mill Quest to regain the lead and in the end stay on and beat Barra by a length and three parts.
Afterwards Elliott's assistant Iam Amond, who was earlier on hand to welcome stablemate winner Ravenhill stated “every time you think you are getting to the end of her, she keeps coming up with another win; Davy thought he hadn't really gone for her but obviously it was easier when the other one fell. He was happy enough that he still had a chance.
“I don't know what the plan for her is but she is in at Listowel on Monday and maybe she'll go there. She is in-foal to Mount Nelson and I think that is her third win since she was put in-foal. It would be ideal if she got a bit of black-type. I think there might be a black-type race in Perth that she could go for."
