Having also won the previous race, jockey Mark Walsh and owner JP McManus combined for a quick double as In For The Night ran out a comfortable winner of the Thomastown Handicap Hurdle at Gowran Park.

Runner-up in a big field at Galway last time, the Desmond McDonogh trained six-year-old went one place better on this occasion.

Travelling nicely on the heels of the leaders after three out, Walsh moved closer to challenge leader Ah Remy Martin at the penultimate flight.

Leading on the approach to the last, the 9/2f kept on well to hold the staying on Penny Jar by two-and-a-quarter lengths.

“That was very welcome,” said Desmond McDonogh.

“He was unlucky in Galway, he got hobbled over at the castle here. There was nowhere to go as they were six abreast. He finished like a rocket.

“He's still green but has the makings of a nice one. He wants goodish ground, but wouldn't want it any quicker than that either. They are taking the top off it.

“We'll see what the handicapper does now and see where we're going.”
