Ocean Glandore came out on top of a three-way lunge for the line in Ballinrobe’s two and a half mile maiden hurdle.
The 12/1 shot stayed on to lead narrowly entering the straight. The last flight wasn’t jumped as jockey Ryan Treacy was being attended to after he took a fall from Inchivara when the field jumped that hurdle the first time. As Ocean Glandore bypassed the last he was involved in a battle for the spoils, but he edged ahead and prevailed by a neck at the line. Indian Fairy at 2/1 and Icy Reply (12/1) fought right to the line but went down by a neck and the same respectively. The 15/8 favourite, Oscar Vespasian was on terms but couldn’t pose a threat from the straight. He finished fifth.
Denis Hogan said: “He’s all heart and I absolutely love him. He never travels and you’re always on the end of the buckle, but he always responds and he digs it out when you ask him. Those are the types that save so much.
“The Lostwelton Syndicate are from Monivea, Co Galway so he’ll have to run at Galway.
“I was depressed when I saw what handicap mark he got, but the handicapper was proved right again. This was the strongest maiden hurdle though. It’s my third double and I’d like to thank my mother, father and family for all their support. They provide me with a place to train.”
