Heffernan doubles up on Sound Seamie Heffernan completed a quick double for Ballydoyle at Dundalk tonight when Long Island Sound produced a fine front-running performance in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Race. The regally-bred War Front colt, who is out of a half-sister to superstar mare Zenyatta, made it two from two in the mile winners contest. It took a while for the penny to drop when the winner made a successful debut here at the start of the month but he was much more professional tonight and was sent straight into the lead. Heffernan asked the heavily backed 5/6 shot (5/2 this morning) for an effort passing the two pole and he stuck to his task well in the closing stages to record a length-and-a-half success. Midnight Crossing edged a good battle for the runner-up spot close home, getting the verdict by a short-head from Mulligatawny. “He's learning. I suppose it starts early when you have MV Magnier and his advisors spotting them and buying them,” said Heffernan afterwards. “It starts when they are bought and we need the lads to go and buy them. It's nice when they fulfill their promise.”
