Heavy Weight holds on from Lord Kenmare© Photo Healy Racing
Heavy Weight had been the subject of a pretty big market move at Naas back in early June. He could only manage third of five then. However on outing number seven today it all came together for the Teofilo three-year-old in the first split of the Horse & Greyhound Racing 28th September Handicap.
On his second visit to Dundalk (fourth on his previous start here in April) Heavy Weight was never far from the spanking gallop set by the first-time blinkered Ocean Drift
When that one folded from the quarter mile pole, the successful Jim Bolger runner took over, and he kept going well inside the last to keep the coming home strongly Lord Kenmare at bay by three parts of a length.
Kevin Manning rode Heavy Weight and he said: "He had a good run in Killarney and I'd say the better surface suited him there."
Heavy Weight's half-brother by New Approach, Wexford Opera runs in the opener at Dundalk tomorrow whilst their other half-brother Glor Na Mara (by Leroidesanimaux) has a couple of wins to his name, including over the course and distance here. (AM & EM)
