Heather Bear kept on strongly up the inside to take the concluding Gowran Park Golf Club Handicap at Gowran Park.

The thrice-raced daughter of Kodi Bear was making her handicap debut but belied her inexperience to hold off a host of late challengers. The win continued the fine run of the Andy Slattery team who have been in excellent form of late.

Well beaten at Roscommon last time, the filly appreciated the drop in class here, to win in the colours of Dr Ronan Tynan.

Winning trainer Andy Slattery said, “She had three runs in maidens and is slow but keeps galloping. I’d say she might improve for a step up to a mile and a half.

“The owner is on his way back from America so he’ll be happy with that. She’s a grand tough mare.”
