American dirt bred Bold Discovery (15/2) won Naas' concluding Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden today, a race for debutants, scoring for trainer Jessica Harrington, jockey Shane Foley and owners Fergus Galvin and Marc Detampel.
The son of Bolt D'oro was more streetwise than his rivals and having broken smartly from the outside stall, made all and beat Peking Opera by two and a half lengths.
Kate Harrington, representing her mother, said “that was very impressive and he's a gorgeous horse. He only came to us in June and has always done everything so easy. Obviously his sire (Bolt D'oro) is a sensation in America on the dirt and it's exciting for him to have a turf horse here.
“We'll have a chat with the owners and see where he goes next. I think he's Kentucky-bred and there are plenty of bonuses and stuff to be won out there.
“He's very exciting for next season.”
Bold Discovery, a $50,000 Keeneland yearling purchase, is the first from his family to race in Europe with his closest non-American born ancestor being his great grandsire, 1989 Irish-bred stallion El Prado.
