The William Haggis trained Hamish made the most of a drop in grade when proving far too strong for the home opposition in the Listed Curragh On Course Bookmakers Finale Stakes at the Curragh.

An 11-time previous winner, the eight-year-old ran one of his best ever races when runner-up in the Group 1 Coronation Cup at Epsom in May.

Having finished runner-up in Group 2 company at Longchamp last month, this lesser race looked an ideal opportunity to record yet another victory for connections.

Travelling easily just off the leaders under Richard Kingscote, Hamish led over a furlong out before streaking away for an effortless five-length success.

Richard Kingscote said: “I think that’s what we wanted to see and what we know he can do. We got a nice run around from a good draw.

“Mr Haggas asked me to be handy. He did ask me not to be in front too long so that bit was not ideal but he got his head down and did everything right. That ground is what they look for with him.

“He’s mixed it with some very good stayers and has been a very good servant. The Haggas family are very fond of him.”
