Despite operating from the lowly mark of 47, Granny On Fire had shown the potential to win a race in the past. The daughter of Trade Fair made the break-through on outing twelve when providing Mick Mulvany and Shane 'Fifi' Gray with a welcome winner in the Indaver Handicap at Bellewstown.

Mulvany registering his first success since April and Gray ending a lean spell stretching back to early February, saw a patient approach out on the track pay dividends with Granny On Fire.

Pushed along in thirteenth over two furlongs out, the victorious 12/1 shot hit top gear to lead a furlong out before going away inside the final hundred yards to come home four lengths clear from Capitol Hill

"She was a little disappointing the last day after coming there looking like winning. She didn't get the run of the race.

"The horses just weren't firing but we changed things around a little bit and hopefully they're turning the corner now.

"Hopefully she'll go to Galway. It's a nice anniversary present for my parents – Larry and Ann (winning owners) – married 50 years this weekend.

"My mother nearly set the house on fire one day – the chimney was on fire and she didn't realise it until we came in.

"It happened around a year and a half ago. At about the same time we were naming this filly (hence the name)," explained an understandably delighted Mick Mulvany.

Well-punted through the day, Carenza could manage no better than ninth. (GC & EM)
