The hurdle course at Gowran Park is still unfit for racing due to waterlogging on parts of the track ahead of tomorrow afternoon’s fixture, although officials are still hopeful that the meeting will go ahead.
There has been a further 14mm of rain at the County Kilkenny venue since entries and the going on the chase course is described as heavy, while the hurdle course is heavy where raceable.
There is a favourable forecast of mainly dry weather with a further update planned for tomorrow morning.
The €45,000 Holden Plant Rentals Shamrock Handicap Chase is the feature on a seven-race card scheduled to get underway at 2.10pm.
The €100,000 Bar One Racing Leinster National Handicap Chase takes place at Naas on Sunday, while there are also two Grade 3 events on a seven-race card.
Clerk of the Course Brendan Sheridan gave an update on ground conditions this morning saying, “We have had no rain since entries and the ground is now soft, soft to heavy in places, on the chase course and it’s soft on the hurdle course.
“On the hurdle course we have eight to ten yards of fresh ground all around.
“Speaking with Met Eireann there is the possibility of 10mm of rain through tomorrow and Sunday.
“Hopefully we won’t get that amount, but it is forecast. We are in a good place at the moment.”
Racing also takes place at Limerick on Sunday where conditions have improved this week following just 1.5mm of rain since entries and two breezy days.
The going is currently heavy on the hurdle course and soft to heavy, heavy in places, on the chase course. The Grade 3 Irish EBF Shannon Spray Mares Novice Hurdle is the highlight on a seven-race programme.
The forecast is dry and breezy today with possible showers tomorrow (1-2mm) and rain developing Sunday evening.
