High class chaser Golden Silver gave his supporters a few anxious moments when justifying 2/11 favouritism in the four runner Grade 2 Tote Pick Six Normans Grove Chase at Fairyhouse today, hitting a high of 5.2 ‘in-running’ on one exchange. Rubi Light was well clear for much of the trip as Golden Silver chased in second. Momentarily, at the third last fence, Golden SIlver looked in some trouble but to the gelding’s credit, he gradually reeled in Rubi Light before taking the lead at the final fence for a five and a half lengths win.
Afterwards winning trainer Willie Mullins reported “only Golden Silver’s rating got him through that. He looked in trouble before the straight and Paul said he wasn’t enjoying the ground which is very sticky. He is not a horse to ‘chase’ one in front either.”
He added “he’ll run next in the Tied Cottage Chase at Punchestown in a few weeks time where he’ll be joined by J’y Vole and Scotsirish too. He’ll be entered in the Ryanair Chase and Champion Chase at Cheltenham but is more likely to run in the ‘Ryanair’ as he is about 10lbs short of the standard for the Champion Chase.”
