Paul Townend's confidence was in no way dented by the fall of Mikael D'Haguenet half an hour earlier as Golden Silver ran out a really impressive winner of the Grade 2 O'Connell Group Hilly Way Steeplechase for the second year running.
Townend was content to sit and sit as others made their bids for glory from before the straight but he had maximum faith in the horse underneath him and that was justified as the French-bred son of Mansonnien quickened in a few strides to stamp his authority on the race between the last two fences. Let Yourself Go blundered and unseated Shane Hassett when beaten at the last and from there Golden Silver opened up to see off Zaarito.
Mullins, completing a treble with Townend, following on from Zaidpour and Hurricane Fly said: "Paul was very good on him. I thought he was a bit far back but Paul knows the horse very well. He'll go for the Paddy Power Dial-A-Bet Chase at Leopardstown at Christmas now."
Stan James go 12/1 from 20/1 about Golden Silver for the Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.
