Fantastic Gold proved strongest in a driving finish to the opening Holycross Mares Chase at Thurles this afternoon.
Eddie O'Connell was pushing along before the fourth last on his mount but she stuck on well to take closer order turning for home.
Martin Cullinane 's charge challenged at the second last and it was between 11/4 favourite Caoimhe's Delight and herself going to the final fence.
A better jump gave Fantastic Gold the slight advantage and she battled well in the closing stages to record a neck success.
The 9/2 winner was returning to fences having been fifth in a handicap hurdle at Limerick ten days ago. She had previously chase home the progressive Minella For Value at Ballinrobe.
“She was flat out most of the way and only came on the bridle five out but she jumped well,” reported O'Connell afterwards. “She got a bit tight for room turning for home.”
The winning rider also said the ground was “good but not firm.”
