Late top stallion Galileo sired a first three-year-old winner from his final crop today, as Stay True (3/1) landed Leopardstown's Student Style Awards Maiden for Aidan O’Brien, Ryan Moore and the Coolmore partners.

Derby winner Galileo, the 12-time leading sire of Great Britain & Ireland, died in 2021 and while his final small crop failed to produce a juvenile winner, Stay True today scored readily on debut as a three-year-old.

Racing mid-field on the outer, Stay True was outpaced before the final bend but, in a typical Galileo fashion, showed good ability and a willing attitude when skipping clear in the final furlong, scoring by 2.25 lengths from 92-rated Game Point

O’Brien said “Ryan said he’s a lovely horse. We’ll see how he comes out of it and then we’ll have a look and see if we go to a (Derby) trial with him. He was very babyish but he liked him and all those races are going to be open for him.

“He was very happy with him and said he really got going going to the line. I’d say there is a lot of improvement in him, he said he was very green.”
