Fosters shocks as Universe flops Fosters Cross bounced back to form when running out a ready winner of the two mile October Maiden at Navan. The Tom Mullins-trained gelding had been pulled up on his last two starts over fences but left that form well behind today. Cross Appeal injected pace into the race when kicking for home over half a mile out but couldn't hold the late charge of the 25/1 shot. Joseph O'Brien produced his charge to lead over a furlong from home and he kept on strongly to record a three-length victory. Smart bumper horse Hidden Universe was sent off 5/6 favourite but could never get involved. He tried to throw down a challenge early in the straight but couldn't get on terms with the leaders, eventually finishing a well-beaten fourth. "It was a great ride. He could go for a 1m6f amateur race at Galway now at the end of the month," said Mullins of the winner afterwards. "There is also a two-mile chase there for him. He'll run there in something if the ground doesn't go really bad. I couldn't believe the price today."
