Balynaclash Warior at 25/1 routed a big field in the three mile maiden hurdle at Listowel to give jockey Mikey Fogarty his second winner as a professional jockey.
Fogarty, well known for his exploits as an amateur, brought the seven-year-old gelding through at the second last and the duo powered away from there to put three lengths on 7/2 joint favourite Clonard Lad at the line.
The other 7/2 joint favourite, The Shaughran, was a further two and a half lengths back in third under Gareth Malone.
Remarkably Fogarty is two from two riding as a professional. His other success was on 20/1 shot Paudi The Punter at Galway five days ago.
“He was disappointing the last day, but Ritchie said he didn’t seem to like coming down the hill at Tramore. The previous day he had run well and we thought he would come on for the run," Mikey Fogarty commented.
“He won his point-to-point at Lingstown so we knew he’d stay at it and he likes that nice ground.”
The winner paid 56.40 euro on the Tote. This was trainer Ritchie Rath’s first winner in 27 runners.
