We had a second winning favourite in as many races on the polytrack this evening when Grandmaster Flash (7/4) took the DundalkStadium.com Race.

The consistency of this Australia gelding hasn’t been rewarded with wins, and he came here with a record of one from eighteen.

However with a first-time tongue strap on the chestnut really came alive to dish out a five length beating to Sneaky Getaway

Always to the fore for Joseph O’Brien, in the hands of Dylan Browne McMonagle, Grandmaster Flash put his stamp on this two miler from over a furlong out.

“Dylan said he enjoyed getting a lead early on but he does stay and he’s kicked at the right time from a slow pace. He’s galloped to the line,” said stable representative Brendan Powell.

“The race the last day has sharpened him up a little bit as he was gelded before that. He’s only won one before but has always run well and enjoys it around here.

“Joseph might think of bringing him to Lingfield for the two miles race at the big meeting — we’ll see what he wants to do. There could be a decent staying handicap in him.”

At the request of the Stewards, D.W. O'Connor, rider of Whirling Dervish (GB), trained by J.F. Levins, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was racing on an all weather surface for the first time and he did not appear to be happy on it. Furthermore he hung in running and in his opinion his mount would be more suited to a soft surface.
