Nina Carberry steered home Kates Benefit in the bumper to give trainer Ken Budds his first winner since taking out a license in March.
The ex-jockey has 12 horses in training at Killa in Co Cork and he was understandably delighted to get off the mark. He said: “She has taken time to settle and she’ll be a better mare over fences in time as she has a good pedigree.
“She’ll probably go over hurdles now and go chasing the following season.
Carberry led from start to finish and kept enough in reserve to kick clear on the home straight and the pair cantered in by 18 lengths from 6/4 favourite Way Up In The Air (5/2 to 5/4 in the morning) from Robert Tyner’s yard.
14/1 shot The Boys Dont Know came in third, two lengths further back.
