Feyan gets Cork finale in the steward's room The positions of the first two in the Kerrymaid Novice Handicap Hurdle were reversed following a steward’s enquiry to make for a lively end to proceedings at Cork. Feyan was promoted at the expense of favourite Zaccarela. In the colours of Mary Tyner Phillip Enright raced in the rear of mid-division on the successful Nayef mare, before making headway after four out. The 11/1 scorer came with her effort in the straight, at which point Zaccarela was making his way for home. He edged left in the closing stages, impeding Feyan, and it came as no big surprise to anyone when the amended result was announced, given that only a head separated them at the line. Unfortunately Duhallow Paddy was injured and pulled up two out. The winning owner’s husband Robert trains Feyan, and the County Cork yard had Fairly Legal finish second in the big money handicap chase at Navan yesterday. The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Satin Sun, trained by James Daniel Dullea, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal. The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages involving Zaccarela (FR), ridden by K. J. Brouder, placed first and Feyan, ridden by P.T. Enright, placed second, where it appeared that Zaccarela drifted left and carried Feyan off its racing line. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that Zaccarela had cause interference to Feyan and in doing so had improved its finishing position in relation to the second horse. The Stewards therfore reversed the placings of the first and second horses. Furthermore, the Stewards were satisfied that K. J. Brouder was in breach of rule 214, in that he had ridden carelessly. Having considered K. J. Brouder's record in this regard the Stewards suspended him for one raceday. Amended result now reads: 1st : Feyan 2nd : Zaccarela 3rd : Dessie Deschamps 4th : Lunastar 5th : Rocconrockall 6th : Oscer Romero P. Townend, rider of Satin Sun trained by James Daniel Dullea, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made a mistake at the fifth last and stopped quickly. D.J. O'Keeffe, rider of Influential Lady trained by James M. Barcoe, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made a very bad mistake in running. (TW & EM)
