The Henry De Bromhead trained Our Dougal (9/4jf) gained a belated maiden chase win at Killarney today, landing the Dawn Hi Lo Milk Beginners Chase, a year after he initially attempted to win the same race at the festival meeting.
A grand sized son of Excellent Art, Our Dougal finished second in last year’s renewal, under a waiting ride, but today made all under jockey Andrew Lynch and in the end proved too strong for All The Answers
Afterwards De Bromhead stated “in fairness he deserved that and has had some cracking runs and I’m delighted for the Mangans (owners).
“He was good there, jumped really well and it wasn’t out of turn - he’s a 128 rated beginners and his first run over fences was this race last year! It was no harm though as he’s a big horse and is still only filling his frame - he’s absolutely massive.
“There’s plenty fun to be had with him and while made mistakes in the past, jumped impeccably there and Andrew (Lynch) gives him such confidence jumping - he just lies down their neck jumping and that lad loved it.
“He’ll run in the Grade 3 2m2f novice chase at Galway next - Jimmy (Mangan)s goes to Galway every year so I’d imagine he’ll run there.”
