Fairies another winner for Murphy Two in-form yards saw their runners fight out the finish of the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden at Fairyhouse as Joe Murphy's Flying Fairies beat Dermot Weld's Kidd Malibu. Weld and Smullen were bidding for a double on the day with 9/10 favourite Kidd Malibu, but that son of Malibu Moon couldn't deal with the experienced filly Flying Fairies (Gary Carroll up on the 5/2 chance). The five times previously raced daughter of Holy Roman Emperor came here with a rating of 80, and she got on terms with the pace-setting Kidd Malibu a furlong and a half out. She led a furlong out and from there went on to oblige by three parts of a length. "That's her trip. She has a good turn of speed and I didn't want to get there too soon. The good fillies handicap at the Curragh on Derby weekend could be the race for her," commented Carroll. Christina Simpson, rider of Crash Bang Wallop (GB), trained by A. Oliver, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that her mount hung badly left after leaving the stalls and changed it's legs repeatedly during the race. (AM & EM)
