Pat Fahy is on rain watch for his History Of Fashion which is entered for Saturday's Eider Handicap Chase at Newcastle with the trainer is hoping for a dry spell of weather.
The ten-year-old has been placed in some useful staying chases in recent times, including finishing second in a Listed chase at Fairyouse in December but was pulled up on soft ground at Down Royal last month.
Fahy reports “we might confirm him but they are saying it’s raining over there and the ground is heavy which wouldn’t suit him. We were planning on going over there hoping the ground would be good.
“He was second in the Leinster National at Naas last year and also third beaten only two lengths in the 3m7f handicap at the Punchestown Festival so they’re races we could also think about if he can get in.
“It was too soft and tacky for him at Down Royal the last day and he ran well in the Porterstown at Fairyhouse before that, but the ground also just found him out that day.
“He ran in the Scottish National a few years ago but he wasn’t as experienced then and Phillip Enright said it was too sharp and they were turning all the time.
“He would get his ground (in the bet365 Gold Cup) at Sandown and if he got in there we could go for that.”
