Denis Hogan's Expound (12/1) proved game off the front in the Peter Queally Memorial Maiden Hurdle over an extended two miles in Tramore.
The Ulysses gelding made all for Daniel King and a good jump at the penultimate flight enabled him to get first run on the pursuers. Brilliant Light looked the danger particularly when Expound wasn't at his most fluent over the last, however, the leader didn't lose any momentum and kept rolling on the short run-in to see off the staying-on Brilliant Light (15/2) by half a length. Joueuse Royale (5/1) was another length and a-quarter away in third.
King said: "He made all, jumped really well out in front and galloped strong to the line, so it was good to get his head in front.
"He finished second here on the Flat one day and was fourth another day here over hurdles.
"That's my first winner at Tramore, so it's good to get it as well."
Expound also won a Flat maiden at Ballinrobe in June.
This was dual-purpose jockey King's first winner of this National Hunt season.
