Jockey Sam Ewing followed up five winners at Down Royal this weekend with a Cork success today, steering Noel Meade's Blue Mosque (15/2) to impressively land the Paddy Power (Mares) Maiden Hurdle.
Ewing, 20, has filled-in for suspended Jack Kennedy recently and having steered a treble and double respectively at the northern track over the past two days, today partnered bumper victor Blue Mosque to a useful 5.5 lengths win over Reina Del Mar
Ewing, who leads the jockeys' championship by nine from Paul Townend (39-31), reported “Blue Mosque works very well and everyone at home thought she was nice.
“She was plenty was green today so I think you'll see a big step forward from her. The ground is safe, on the slow side of good and I'd say she is very versatile ground-wise.
“She could step back to two miles no problem either and is an exciting filly.”
Regarding his recent run Ewing added “it was unfortunate for Jack to be suspended but it was great to get on all those nice horses. I can't thank Gordon (Elliott) and the owners enough for putting me up and Jack was a great help as well.
“I didn't have to do much and was just lucky to be the one steering them around.”
