Colin Keane moved another winner clear at the head of the Jockeys’ Championship by winning the Bar One Racing Mourne Handicap at Dundalk today, steering Reckless Endeavour to win for his employer Ger Lyons.

The win increased the son of Kodiac’s success-rate to ‘one a year’ and having gained his maiden win in 2015, was today ending an eight race losing spell since his previous win at Gowran in May 2016.

Shane Lyons, representing his brother Ger Lyons, later commented “we took a gamble dropping back to six and it paid off.

“We knew with the likes of Geological in the race they'd go hard so it would be a good true run race and if he was able to lie up with them he would kind of be the class horse of the race.

“Hopefully that will give him a bit of confidence because really the handicapper has him. He has been hard on him as he's ran all year and he hasn't dropped him.

“We had to drop him back to six to try something else. It worked as they've gone hard and he loved that surface.

“He said they went hard but he came into his own at the furlong pole. We'll look at those six furlong races up the Curragh if it's not too slow.”

The win moves Keane to the 56 winner mark for the season, nine clear of chasing jockey Pat Smullen.
