Gordon Elliott recorded a 1-2 yesterday in the featured Paddy Power Stayers Hurdle and he enjoyed a similar result after racing in the Tattersalls Cheltenham Festival Sale when securing the top two record-breaking lots.
A record price of £420,000 was paid by Aidan Ryan on behalf of the Keep The Dream Alive (KTDA) syndicate for Romeo Coolio, a Kayf Tara four-year-old who won a point-to-point at Belclare last weekend.
The syndicate enjoyed Festival success in the past with Mount Ida and this gelding was purchased at the Tattersalls Derby Sale last summer for €92,000 by Monbeg Stables.
There was a similar scenario with Jalon D’Oudairies, who also won a four-year-old maiden at Lingstown last weekend.
The son of No Risk At All, who won the same point as the likes of Bravemansgame and Gerri Colombe, was also bought by Elliott for £420,000 from Monbeg Stables.
“Jalon D’Oudairies is a lovely horse, he came well recommended and we saw him before he ran,” said Elliott.
“These are the sort of horses we want. We thought Romeo Coolio and this horse were the best here. He does not have an owner yet, but we will have one by the time the night is out!”
A total of 20 horses were sold for a record aggregate of £3,450,000, while the average price of £172,500 was also a record for this sale.
