The Enabler just clung on after a thrilling conclusion to the 2m4f maiden hurdle that got Leopardstown's card under way.

He brought up a 2000th Irish National Hunt success for trainer Gordon Elliott, in addition to his 100th winner of the season.

The 4/1 shot tracked 8/13 favourite Argento Boy throughout and took over after the second-last flight when the leader weakened quickly.

Sam Ewing asserted aboard the new leader who looked to have the race at this mercy jumping the last.

However, he was far from home as I Am Lorenzo came hard, fast and late on the run-in and really closed on the leader who was crying out for the line close home.

He held on by a short head from the 9/1 runner-up with Port Joulain (14/1) two lengths further back in third.

Elliott, “He was good and just got a bit close to the last.

“I’m not sure what his trip is as he wasn’t getting home over three miles and two miles looked too short.

“Michael and Anita (O'Leary) are racing here today and it’s great to get them a winner.

“He looks a chaser for next year.”

On training his 2,000th Irish National Hunt winner, he added: “You dream about doing something like that but it’s a testament to all the owners and our staff.

“We have a great bunch of young horses and we have been rebuilding for the last couple of years.”

Paddy Power trimmed The Enabler from 40/1 to 33/1 for the Albert Bartlett.
