Gordon Elliott doubled up on the card at Kilbeggan tonight when Beaufort Scale gained a deserved success in the Hurley Family Maiden Hurdle.
The Sholokhov gelding had been runner-up on his jumping debut at Cork three weeks ago having been placed in a bumper previously.
He went to post a 5/1 shot tonight and was produced with a well-timed surge by Sam Ewing to lead over the last in the three-miler.
The five-year-old galloped on strongly to the line to beat long-time leader Magellan Strait by three lengths.
“He didn't put a foot wrong anywhere today, he jumped brilliant. We went a really good gallop and when I asked him he picked up, and did it well at the line,” said Ewing.
“It was three miles on testing enough summer ground and I was happy with the way he picked up.
“His first run over hurdles at Cork was a very good run and it's nice to see him get his breakthrough today.”
Elliott had also struck earlier with the Danny Gilligan ridden Hardy Diamond in the Tom McCormack Memorial Maiden Hurdle.
