Elliott & Oliver Take Last Two A 7,500 guineas purchase out of the Andy Oliver-yard at last year's Newmarket Autumn Sales, Careless Abandon had previously once sported blinkers, but in first-time cheek-pieces today, Gordon Elliott's mare comfortably scored by four and a half lengths in the Magners Cider Handicap at Downpatrick. Travelling well to lead two furlongs out under Niall 'Slippers' Madden, the 12/1 shot was clear a furlong out, keeping on strongly to beat Danticat. The daughter of Mull Of Kintyre won a mile and a half handicap for her previous trainer at Galway in 2006. She has plenty of size about her and with a rating of 85 over hurdles, the five-year-old will be of interest when trying her case at that game again. Andy Oliver himself had reason to celebrate half-an-hour later. Here he saddled Appeal Denied in the bumper and this one justified the faith of those punters that backed him from 14/1 into 10/1. Jackie Kidd forced the six-year-old Lord Of Appeal gelding to the front in the last hundred and fifty yards, going on to defeat Howyakeepan by two and a half lengths in the Ardglass Ladies INH Flat Race.
