Easy for Barney as he lands the bets On outing number two for Gordon Elliott, Barneys Honour came on from an eye-catching Limerick effort at Christmas to land a gamble in the Meath Handicap Hurdle at Navan. The win was bringing up doubles for Elliott (won the first with Cause Of Causes) and Paul Carberry (landed race two aboard Blissful Moment). Those that backed the former Philip Rothwell (won a point-to-point and three races for him, all at Fairyhouse) inmate from 7/1 last night into 3/1 favourite never really had much grounds for concern. Now a nine-year-old, the City Honours gelding took it up two out on the way to an easy four length victory over Chestnut Charlie. Elliott explained: "He had a leg and he was off for a while. On his first run back at Christmas he ran well. I thought he wouldn't be too far away today. "The owner was at an engagement party last night and he couldn't make it today." Barneys Honour is owned by Anthony 'Barney' Deegan from Tinahely in County Wicklow. (AM & EM)
