Ross O’Sullivan is hoping a step up in trip might bring some improvement out of Eagles Reign.

The Lartigue Hurdle winner has been well beaten in two starts since taking the valuable prize in Listowel.

He holds an entry in the 45,000 euro Navan Handicap Hurdle at the Meath venue on Saturday, where he is set to tackle two-and-a-half miles for the first time.

"He is up in trip,” said O’Sullivan at Dundalk on Tuesday.

"I was disappointed with him last time in Limerick and couldn't really put my finger on it.

"He is probably held off his mark, he's not over big. The mark is probably just starting to peak.

"We are going to give two and a-half a chance on soft to heavy ground in Navan and see where we are.

"He definitely stays well. We are hoping that the extra half a mile brings out a bit more improvement.

"We were hoping that if he kept improving, it could bring us to bigger things. If he levels off at that (his mark), we are going to have to have a rethink and see."
