Pat Flynn and Danny Grant brought up a Wexford double with Al Mancilia (16s this morning into 6s) in the Belmont Handicap. The pair were earlier on the mark with Final Flashback
This Belmont Handicap was a pretty dramatic affair. Favourite, The Reek appeared to become unbalanced under three furlongs out and she caused Danick Of Time Calle Aneto Intyre Trail Vitruvian Wave and The Fourth Of May to be brought down in a terrible looking incident. Art Fund was hampered and was pulled up. Thankfully all horses and jockeys were okay in the aftermath.
In the closing stages the first time tongue-tied Al Mancilia, a 700 Euros buy at Goresbridge last July, toughed it out in really tenacious fashion to score narrowly from Bangalore Prince Apache Gold and Lift The Gloom
Flynn said: "That was a grand little win and she's a nice little filly.
"She disappointed on soft ground last time but she had a goodish run on good ground so we thought she might run well today.
"She might go to Galway now."
The Stewards enquired into an incident before the turn into the straight involving Danick Of Time, ridden by S.J. Foley, brought down, Calle Aneto, brought down , ridden by JA Heffernan, Intyre Trail, brought down, ridden by M Monaghan, Vitruvian Wave , brought down , ridden by C O Donoghue, The Fouth Of May, brought down , ridden by F.M Berry and The Reek, ridden by PJ Smullen, unplaced.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned and from Mr. T.V.O’Connell, Clerk Of The Course.
Having viewed the video of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards
were of the opinion that the incident was accidental and took no further action.
